In Southern California, the surf and skate culture accounts for much of the lifestyle. You can’t go anywhere down south without seeing surfers and skateboarders in their natural habitat, shredding gnar, and getting stoked.

Since the 1960’s, this culture has turned from a movement into a worldwide phenomenon, and action sports culture gathering the world around it’s brands and riders. With Vans being at the forefront of all that is cool, its only natural they would sponsor the biggest surf contest of the summer.
Thankfully, an all access backstage invitation was extended by Vans to attend Vans US Open of Surfing. I was accompanied by some of the coolest, most talented chicks in the game.
After about an hour of driving from Silverlake, CA, we got to the event. The day was beautiful…we had a busy schedule between checking out some surfing, skateboarding, shooting some photos and hanging on the beach with the girls.
The Star Wars series is unreal as well, but overall, I would say the force is strong with much of the Vans line.
My experience at the Vans US Open left me invigorated.
Not only was I inspired by this crew, but I acquired a greater understanding and respect for what each person’s creative process was.
As we all sat eating ice cream, laughing, reflecting on the epic day we all had, we created a bond.
I realized these were the Vans girls I looked to as a child. They were the badasses, ones I put on my wall to inspire me.
Even to this day I remain captivated by the youthful spirit and premise of rebellion Vans has pioneered. This is OUR lifestyle. We are ALL the Vans girls and boys! Thanks Again Vans girls for having me!
